A busy Los Angeles coffee shop hums through breakfast. Two small-time thieves sit in a corner booth, studying the room like it is a map.
PUMPKIN
Restaurants are soft targets. Everybody is relaxed, nobody wants a story with their eggs.
HONEY BUNNY
(quiet, amused)
You always make crime sound like customer service.
They exchange a look. The ordinary morning around them suddenly feels rehearsed.
CUT TO:
EXT. APARTMENT COURTYARD - MORNING
Jules and Vincent cross the courtyard in dark suits, paper coffee cups in hand. Their calm does not match the job waiting upstairs.
VINCENT
You ever notice people get philosophical right before breakfast or right before getting shot?
JULES
Then we should be polite and let breakfast finish first.
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - MORNING
They stop outside a door. Jules checks the number. Vincent smooths his jacket, as if wardrobe can make violence professional.
SMASH CUT TO:
INT. BRETT'S APARTMENT - MORNING
Three nervous young men freeze around a cheap table. The room smells of fast food, stale smoke, and bad decisions.
JULES
Morning, gentlemen. I hope we are not interrupting anything important.
