What Laper is

Understand the two project types, the source-of-truth model, and where each kind of work belongs.

The product in one minute

Laper is a collaborative workspace for screenwriting and film pre-production. It has two project types:

• A Script project is for screenplay text, outline, beats, derived scenes, characters, locations, props, shots, reference material, and collaboration.
• A Cinema project is for turning short dramatic units into visual production pipelines: scene design, performance, shot design, storyboard images, and finished clips.

Both project types use the same project list, episode navigation, collaboration layer, and offline-capable document foundation. Their creative data models remain separate, so a Cinema reel is not secretly a screenplay scene and a screenplay scene is not a video task.

The screenplay is the source of truth

In a Script project, structured data follows the screenplay. A scene heading creates or updates a scene and its location. Character cues create or connect character records. This matters because you should fix a wrong scene at its source: edit the scene heading in the script instead of trying to create a disconnected scene card elsewhere.

Outline and beats help plan the story, but they do not replace the screenplay. They can change before the script, and the AI assistant may maintain them while working, yet the text remains the authoritative record of what is actually written.

Project data and episode data

Screenplay text, outline, beats, scenes, and shots belong to an episode. Characters, locations, props, worldview, knowledge files, and hired advisors are shared by the whole project. Moving between episodes changes your own view only; it does not force collaborators to follow you.

AI is a collaborator, not a second document system

Laper's AI reads the relevant project context and proposes or performs actions through the same browser workspace you use. Script edits ultimately enter the same collaborative document as keyboard edits. In read-only access, write actions are unavailable. Worldview changes require an explicit request in your latest message.
